The Frisco football team got a big challenge in its season opener -- and the Raccoons were up to task.
Led by outstanding performances by its offensive line and stingy defense, Frisco beat Independence 17-14 on Thursday at Toyota Stadium.
Frisco led 10-7 in the first half, but Independence led 14-10 at halftime and held that lead until the fourth quarter. The Raccoons' winning touchdown drive went 41 yards in seven plays, capped by quarterback Caree' Green's 1-yard run with eight minutes left.
Independence drove 90 yards for a touchdown on its opening drive, but the Frisco defense put the clamps on the Knights after that. Independence's final drive ended when Frisco's Chase Lowery intercepted a fourth-down pass.
Frisco next plays Reedy on Oct. 1 at the Ford Center.
